Identifying your property boundaries is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your property. Make sure you understand where your boundaries are located so they can be marked 
properly. This will allow you to let neighbors know not to enter your property.
The first step is to look at the legal records and determine where your ownership lies on a map. The next step is to physically walk the boundaries and to do initial flagging of the lines. Lines should be run with a compass and posted signs should be placed. After this is done you can come back a paint the boundary lines with a long-lasting paint.
At 5 year intervals you should inspect the lines to see if any signs need replacing or the lines need a repaint.
Properly marked property lines will prevent your guests from encroaching on your neighbors and will allow them to identify ownership when you are gone. Its like the old adage: ” Good fences make good neighbors.” This also applies to well marked boundaries.
